Investing in employee training and development is an essential aspect of running any business – and, as with any other investment, it’s important it delivers the expected returns. To this end, Learning Management System (LMS) dashboards provide a clear, data-driven view of corporate training programs – revealing areas for improvement, aligning L&D strategies with organisational goals, and helping companies achieve optimal results from their corporate training programmes. In this article, we’ll explore the benefits and applications of custom Docebo LMS dashboards, and how they can transform your learning environment.

Why use custom Docebo dashboards?

Docebo is a technology company that specialises in learning management systems, with their platforms designed with scalability and adaptability in mind. They allow organisations to personalise their LMS dashboards to monitor the specific metrics that matter most, delivering a level of flexibility that standard dashboards can’t provide.

As a long-standing Docebo implementation partner, Educontinu offers professional services to help businesses configure and optimise their Docebo dashboards for maximum effect.

The power of Docebo’s insights

At the core of Docebo’s custom dashboard capabilities lies the Insights feature, which collects and analyses data on platform activity. Accessible to Superadmins and Power Users, Insights allows organisations to assess learner engagement and the overall effectiveness of training programmes. Setting up custom dashboards through the Insights tool, administrators can build an analytical framework that reflects their organisation’s learning objectives.

These dashboards serve as a visual representation of key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide insights into various aspects of the learning process. Whether it’s tracking enrolments, certifications, or course completions, Docebo’s Insights feature delivers a clear, digestible view of learner progress.

Custom dashboards provide tangible benefits for learning administrators and stakeholders, helping them to:

Monitor Training Effectiveness

Quickly assess how well training is resonating with employees by tracking engagement metrics.

Improve Decision-Making

With precise data readily available, teams can make informed decisions on programme adjustments.

Demonstrate ROI

Show stakeholders the business impact of learning initiatives through clear, quantifiable data.

Encourage Collaboration

Sharing dashboards allows departments to work together and support organisation-wide learning goals.

Accessing and navigating dashboards

The pathway to creating a custom dashboard starts in the Admin menu under ‘Insights’ in the E-learning section. Once a user is on the Insights page, they can view dashboards presented as cards or in a table format. Docebo provides a selection of ready-to-use dashboards (such as enrolments, certifications, and ILT courses) as well as options for users to create and manage their own custom dashboards under ‘My dashboards’.

What’s more, custom dashboards can be filtered by role, allowing admins to set specific permissions for users. This allows you to control which users have the ability to view or edit dashboards, helping to maintain data integrity and relevance.

Building your custom dashboard

Creating a custom dashboard within Docebo’s LMS is relatively straightforward:

  1. Select ‘Create dashboard’ from the Insights page.
  2. Enter a name and description for your new dashboard, then choose ‘Create and edit’.
  3. Within the ‘Builder’ tab, you can add visual elements from Docebo’s library, which includes a wide range of options.

Each element added to the dashboard represents a different metric, allowing you to create a holistic view of learning data that aligns with your specific objectives. For example, a custom dashboard can be tailored to track new employee training completion rates or monitor compliance training progress.

Managing custom dashboards

Once created, custom dashboards appear in the ‘My dashboards’ section, where they can be managed and modified as needed. Three main tabs facilitate this process:

Properties: Modify the dashboard’s name or description.

Builder: Add, remove, or adjust visual elements. Although any changes here are auto-saved, you will need to save manually to display them in View mode.

Filters: Set specific data filters that are saved for future sessions, streamlining the viewing process.

This ability to set and save filters streamlines the dashboard experience by granting users quick access to specific data views without needing to reapply filters each time. For example, a Power User could set filters to view engagement data for a particular department or region, making it easier to track performance by location.

Assigning and Sharing Dashboards

Docebo’s custom dashboards can be shared with other users within the organisation, granting them visibility into specific datasets. This allows departments to collaborate on data analysis and make decisions based on shared insights.

For instance, a manager in the HR department could access a custom dashboard that provides an overview of onboarding completion rates across teams. Sharing dashboards ensures that relevant data is accessible to those who need it, without creating redundant reports.

Things to bear in mind

As useful as they are, custom dashboards do come with certain usage considerations:

Data Refresh Rates: Data on Docebo’s dashboards updates once a day. While filters provide immediate customisation, it’s important to remember that the latest data may not appear until the following day.

Language: Currently, Insights is available only in English, which may be an issue for organisations with multilingual teams.

Usage Limits: While Docebo has no current limitations on dashboard views, heavy usage, such as automation-triggered or high-frequency views, could lead to future limitations due to the potential costs associated with Snowflake (Docebo’s data processing tool).
